Program Options

Skagit/Islands Head Start provides a variety of programming options to meet the needs of our children and families.

Preschool Head Start
Preschool Head Start is a center-based preschool program for children ages 3 to 5. Part day classes are available in Mount Vernon, Burlington, and Oak Harbor. Full day classrooms are available in Concrete, Sedro Woolley, Burlington, Mount Vernon, Oak Harbor, and Friday Harbor.

Part-day Preschool
Runs 3 ½ hours per day; four days per week throughout the school year (September-June).

Full-day Preschool
Runs classes 6 ½ hours per day, five days per week throughout the school year (September-June).

Early Head Start
Early Head Start is a year-round program for children ages birth to 3, as well as pregnant mothers and their families.

Home-Based (Children birth to three and pregnant mothers)
Infants and toddlers enrolled in the home-based option receive a weekly 90-minute home visit. During these visits, the home visitor works in partnership with the child’s parent(s) to provide early learning experiences. Children and parents also attend play groups that are scheduled twice a month; offering snacks and parent networking opportunities. The home-based option is available in Skagit and Island county.

Combination Class (Toddlers 16-24 months)
Classroom experience 3 ½ hours per day; 2 days per week (September-June) along with two home visits per month.

Part Day Early (Toddlers 24 to 36 months)
Classroom experience 3 ½ hours per day, four days per week throughout the school year (September-June). Four home visits during the summer (July-August).

Full Day Early (Toddlers 24 to 36 months)
Classroom experience 6 ½ hours per day, five days per week year round.

All program options include developmental and health screenings, nutritional snacks and meals, educational experiences, and support and referrals for families working to establish and reach their goals. Our classrooms are developmentally appropriate, based on the needs of the children enrolled and the goals set for them by teachers and their parents.
